s | 63 palate. In this study, we investigated the association between coding region single nucleotide polymorphisms (cSNPs) of ADAMATS20 gene and schizophrenia in a Korean population. Methods: Six cSNPs (rs10506226, rs10880473, rs7310011, rs7297737, rs7302446 and rs11182088) in 276 schizophrenia patients and 406 control subjects were genotyped using Sequenom iPLEX-Gold assay. The associations of SNPs were analyzed based on logistic regression using multiple inheritance models (log-additive, dominant and recessive models). Results: In our study, significant associations between rs7302446, rs7297737 and rs7310011 and schizophrenia were shown in the dominant models (p = 0.0057, OR = 1.72, 95% CI = 1.17–2.52 for rs7302446; p = 0.0043, OR = 1.75, 95% CI = 1.19–2.58 for rs7297737; p = 0.006, OR = 1.71, 95% CI = 1.17–2.52 for rs7310011). We also found a significant association between rs11182088 and schizophrenia in the log-additive (p = 0.004, OR = 1.44, 95% CI = 1.12–1.85) and dominant models (p = 0.048, OR = 1.57, 95% CI = 1.15–2.16). Additionally, in the analysis of haplotypes, the ATGCTG, ATGCTA and CCATAA haplotypes consisting six cSNPs were associated with schizophrenia (p = 0.0006, 0.044, and 0.020, respectively). Conclusion: These results suggest that the ADAMTS20 gene contributes to the susceptibility of schizophrenia. Association study of single nucleotide polymorphism rs165599 of COMT gene, with schizophrenia and bipolar mood disorder in the south-west of Iran
Linkage studies and epidemiological findings indicate that some possible genes in schizophrenia (SCZ) and bipolar mood disorder (BPD) are common. Numerous evidences for linkage of two diseases on chromosome 22 have been found. These findings suggest that one or more genes in the 22q11.21 region may be involved in the development of both disorders. In the present case-control study, association ...
متن کاملCombined effect of polymorphic sites in the DTNBP1 and GRIN1 genes on schizophrenia
Abstract Background: Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder and numerous genes and loci are beleived to be involved in this disease. Recent studies have reported a strong genetic association between DTNBP1 (dystrobrevin-binding protein 1) gene variants and schizophrenia. Methods: In this research, we used a case-control study to establish the possible association between the P1635 ...
متن کاملStudy of the association between DRD2 Gene Ser311Cys and GSTM1 Gene polymorphism in Schizophrenia
Introduction: Schizophrenia is a mental disorder affecting 1% of the world's population. Two of genes have been recognized to be involved in development of this disease: DRD2 and GSTM1. Methods: This case-control study included 100 patients suffering from schizophrenia who referred to Yazd Neuropsychiatry Hospital. Also, 100 healthy patients without schizophrenia were selected as the control g...
متن کاملAccurately Assessing the Risk of Schizophrenia Conferred by Rare Copy-Number Variation Affecting Genes with Brain Function
Investigators have linked rare copy number variation (CNVs) to neuropsychiatric diseases, such as schizophrenia. One hypothesis is that CNV events cause disease by affecting genes with specific brain functions. Under these circumstances, we expect that CNV events in cases should impact brain-function genes more frequently than those events in controls. Previous publications have applied "pathwa...
متن کاملFactor Structure of the Brief Psychiatric
The authors report the results of a confirmatory factor analysis of symptoms assessed with the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) in a sample of 474 patients with schizophrenia, replicated in an independent sample of 327 patients. The most commonly used 5-factor solution for the BPRS fit the data poorly. Exploratory factor analyses performed on the first sample led to the specification of a ...
